About Art for a Mitzvah
The start of any new program is to have people show up. That is exactly what sixteen women did when Art for a Mitzvah was launched…they showed up each Wednesday at Etz Chaim for five weeks from mid-January through mid-February and completed the first Art for a Mitzvah project. Twenty-four beautiful, collaged trays have been created and a total of 240 hours were put into making them. Now they are ready for purchase. Half of the proceeds will be used towards the first donation and the other half will be invested back to fund our next project. Yad LaKashish in Jerusalem was the inspiration for Art for a Mitzvah and they will receive the first donation.
The largest bamboo tray is 15 ½” x 15 ½” x 2 ½” and the collage is sealed making it water resistant. The brown wood tray is 12” x 12” x 2 ¼” and has glass to cover the collage. The black tray is 11” wide x 14” long x 2” high and has a glass top that opens and closes with gold clips. The collages are art pieces which are ready for display, as well as being functional. The trays can be used on a coffee table to hold a plate of desserts, or books, or on a vanity area holding perfume bottles as a few ideas.
Our artists for this first project were: Galina Barshay, Tammy Cohen, Janice Etscovitz, Lori Gilbert, Myra Goldberg, Lauren Gray, Bernice Isaac, Lynne Goldman Johannesen, Donna Krodman, Arlene La Vine, Fern Meharg, Roz Reiss, Miriam Rosenbaum, Bonnie Roth, Cindee Sapoznik, Marsha Shrago and Melissa Sklar. Yasher Koach on these beautiful pieces are usable art.
