Vote for MERCAZ, Slate 6, in the World Zionist Elections

Rabbi Dan Dorsch

It’s hard to believe that right now there are two important elections concerning the future of the Jewish people. The one you’ve probably been reading about is Israel’s third parliamentary election. In so many months, no one has been able to form a coalition. As American citizens, it’s frustrating to watch. We sit on the sidelines as we watch Israeli democracy at work.

Yet, there is also a second election going on right now. Here, our voices and our votes matter. It is also the only election where all Jews around the world get a vote. This is the election for the World Zionist Congress. Voting opened on January 21 and will continue until March 11.

Unlike the Israel election, which represents a narrow sliver of the Jewish population, the Zionist Congress represents the diversity of world Jewry. This is why the Conservative Movement even has its own slate called Mercaz (Slate 6). Historically, Mercaz has been one of the strongest parties in the Congress. We stand for pluralism, democracy, and religious equality for Jews of all streams in Israel.

As American Jews, we may not decide the next Prime Minister: but if we vote in the WZO elections, we send Israel’s Prime Minister an important message. Our votes also decide how millions of dollars are allocated throughout Israel to causes that share our interests.

I hope you will join me in supporting Mercaz, Slate 6, in the upcoming elections. You can vote in the election for Slate 6, Mercaz, by clicking here.
